Sharp Reading Self Observation and Practise Analysis Conversation 2

Reflections on my self observation (via video) of a Sharp Reading Lesson.

Focus for observation:

Using the trigger prompts which are:

- I need a bit more

- Who

- I can still hear the parrot

- Show me

- There's a roadblock

- Stay with the sentence

I started with the LI

Next step: Expect the kids to know and say the LI and why

My instructions were clear and I modelled "ITTM"

All students participated and eyes were mostly on the text.

I kept the lesson moving - pace seemed good to me.

I accepted all answers with 'thank you'

I was mumbling a little with my explanations

I used these trigger prompts: who, stay with the sentence x2, I need more.

Next step: use "I can still hear the parrot" and "show me" where appropriate

I noticed that any time there was a question in the text, the students really struggled to unpack this. I think they would benefit from another instructional lesson to really get an idea of what a '3' sentence sounds like.

Overall, I was more comfortable with the script than last time and was able to use some of the trigger prompts in the right places.

These are the goals I have agreed on with my coach:

By the end of Week 5, I would have completed Until 4 and 5 of the Sharp online course and practised taking data for two Sharp Lessons. I would have watched my video to help my practise moving forward (completed above).

By the end of Term 3, we will do an observation in the studio (not a withdrawal room) with the swivel to observe my practise when monitoring another group while also teaching Sharp.

Dates:

September 13 - Check Swivel works

September 21 - Record myself teaching a lesson (Elephants Group)

September 27 - Check in with coach.
